Anthony on the Issues
Parents are the heart of our children’s education, and their voices must guide our schools. I believe King George families deserve full transparency and a seat at the table when it comes to curriculum, policies, and classroom decisions. My commitment is to make parents true partners, ensuring they’re informed, respected, and empowered to shape their kids’ futures.
My Plan:
Organize quarterly town halls across King George to connect directly with families, listen to their concerns, and address their questions about our schools
Guarantee that parents are fully informed about substantial policy changes the School Board is contemplating, well in advance of any vote, reflecting our community’s deep-rooted belief in family leadership.
Establish a Parent Leadership Council, bringing together parents from all walks of life to meet monthly. This group will share insights on curriculum, budgets, and student activities, ensuring our schools reflect the diverse priorities of King George families.
Every student deserves a path to success, whether it’s college or a career. I’m committed to expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) in King George to teach hands-on skills like carpentry, cybersecurity, and nursing, preparing our kids for good-paying jobs right here in our community. By investing in CTE, we’ll empower students to build strong futures, boost our local economy, and honor our values of hard work and opportunity.
My Plan:
Launch a campaign for parents and students, including career fairs and school tours, to highlight CTE as a respected path alongside college prep.
Collaborate with local employers, like those at Dahlgren Naval Base, to create apprenticeships, internships, and job-shadowing programs that connect students to careers.
Pursue state and federal CTE grants, like Virginia’s Perkins funds, and redirect budget savings to expand programs without raising taxes.
Every student deserves to succeed, but passing kids who aren’t ready sets them up for failure. I’ll work to end social promotion, ensuring students master reading, math, and other basics before moving forward. By holding high standards, we’ll boost test scores and give every child a strong foundation for the future.
My Plan:
Hold students back who don’t meet benchmarks after interventions, ensuring they gain the skills necessary for long-term academic and career success.
Expand summer school and tutoring for students needing extra support.
Notify families immediately if a student risks retention, providing progress reports and a tailored support plan. Host workshops to help parents reinforce learning at home.
King George families and taxpayers deserve a School Board that operates in the open, with nothing hidden. I’m committed to ensuring every decision—whether on budgets, curriculum, or school policies—is clear, accessible, and accountable to you. Transparency isn’t just a promise; it’s the foundation of trust in our community. By making our schools’ governance as open as our town square, we’ll strengthen parental involvement and reflect our shared values of honesty and responsibility.
My Plan:
Share a digital newsletter summarizing recent Board actions, upcoming votes, and opportunities for public input, emailed to subscribers.
Hold a quarterly town hall to review the Board’s work, answer questions, and gather feedback, fostering direct dialogue with King George residents.
Run a social media page (e.g., on X, Facebook) to inform residents with real-time updates on votes, events, and policies, plus polls and Q&As to gather community input.
Parents know their children best, and they deserve the freedom to choose the education that fits their needs. I’m committed to enhancing school choice options in King George, giving families more paths—within our public schools and beyond—to ensure every student thrives. By supporting choices like flexible transfers, virtual learning, and homeschool resources, we’ll keep our schools accountable and empower parents to guide their kids’ futures, reflecting our community’s values of liberty and responsibility.
My Plan:
Offer robust online courses through Virginia’s Virtual Learning program, offering full-time or hybrid options for families seeking flexibility without leaving the district.
Host parent workshops and update school websites to explain transfer, virtual, and homeschool options, ensuring families understand their rights.
Create a district resource hub with curriculum guides, SOL testing access, and extracurricular inclusion (e.g., sports, clubs) to help homeschoolers succeed under Virginia law.
